The Finished Product

Preliminary

Main Task

Double Page Spread

Question 1: How does your magazine use the codes and conventions of a music magazine?

Question 2: How does you media product represent particular socials groups

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is an example of the type of person my music magazine is aimed at. She is 17 years old and is in a sixth form college. She studies A level music and plays the guitar and bass. She is also in a local band that plays gigs regularly. She rarely watches TV as she is usually on the internet or out with her friends but when she does watch TV she mostly watches programs like Scrubs and Skins. She has a little sister and lives with her mum and dad. She has a part time job in a corner shop and she is taking 4 A levels and plans to go to University.

Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I used different types of technology in the process of creating my magazine, some programs and techniques I had never used before, such as Quark express. I have learnt how to used Quark Express to the level of making a contents page and double page spread. Using photoshop before I was confident with using the software but during making my magazine I learnt lots of new processes such as adding drop shadows, how to put models infront of titles and how to merge pictures. Learning these techniques made me a lot more confident using these programs and made my overall product look better. I used the microsoft office programs to make graphs and type up written work, I learnt how to make different types of graphs on excel and how to make them more understandable. I now understand how the process of desk top publishing works and how easy it would be for a people to make magazines using computer programs.

This is the picture I chose to be on my contents page.
I made this photo negative as the original photo was too dark to put in my magazine. I then lightened the first photo and used that as my contents page image rather than the picture in negative.

Interview Questions

I am going to qrite my article on Lily Allen and her Life. I conducted a short interview with a fan of Lily Allen:

1.What do you think of Lily Allen?
I think she is amazing, I love her music and I have been to see her twice hopefully more times
in the future.
2.What do you think on her decision to quit music?
I am gutted, I have a feeling her quitting music won't last for long, I can't see her upsetting her
fans.

Production Plan

Production Plan

Title: Sound

Positioning Statement: The latest music, the latest sounds.

Frequency of Publication: Weekly

Price: £2.50

Distribution: Newsagents, supermarkets, music shops (Music Equipment), CD & DVD shops (E.g. HMV)

Rationale: The magazine offers reviews, interviews and the opinion of the public through letters and guest reviews from the public. The magazine is aimed at Indie music fans but it is slightly more aimed towards women rather than men as there is not an indie music magazine primarily aimed towards women.

Style: The magazine, as it is aimed at 15 – 20 year olds, will not contain complicated language and will use related slang. Reviews will be honest and interviews will not be edited to delete inappropriate language unless completely necessary. The fonts will be large and easy to read and pages will look appealing to a younger reader by using pictures to break up text and plenty of colours.
